Biblical Scholar Visits Dothan

February 10, 2010

On Monday night, February 8th, Dr. Joel M. Hoffman spoke to an overflow audience at Dothan’s Temple Emanu-El.

Dr. Hoffman is an expert on the Bible, Hebrew, and translation; a much sought-after speaker who presents to dozens of popular and academic audiences each year. His earned degrees are: BA (Summa Cum Laude) from Brandeis University; MS in Computer Science from Israel’s Technion Institute, and a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Maryland.

Dr. Hoffman is a noted author and has served on the faculties of Brandeis University and Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion.

He appeared at our synagogue as the first stop in a four-city Southern States Jewish Literary Series tour coordinated by the Goldring/Woldenberg Institute of Southern Jewish Life — appearing in Dothan, then Montgomery, Huntsville and Knoxville.

Dr. Hoffman made a positively amazing presentation to the 175 attendees — fascinating information, history, and some great humor — all clearly portraying his passion, intellect and command of the subject matter. He then took some audience questions, followed by “an one” celebration and book signing.
