Community Interfaith Thanksgiving Service

Community Interfaith Thanksgiving Service

November 23, 2011

On Tuesday evening November 22nd, Dothan’s St. Columba Catholic Church hosted the city’s fourth annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service. The local faith community’s congregations participating in the service included: Buddhist, Episcopal, Presbyterian, United Methodist, Catholic, Jewish, Hindu, and Muslim.

Dothan’s Mayor Mike Schmitz welcomed the 350+ attendees, then each congregation’s leader read from his/her faith tradition’s sacred texts. The service concluded with a community offering on behalf of the Wiregrass United Way Food Bank.

We then enjoyed a warm and wonderful coffee/dessert hour.

Truly, this was an awesome event; the Church’s Sanctuary was filled with music, words of respect and inclusion, as well as a celebration of our community’s differences and commonalities.
