Temple Gathers 1719 Pounds of Food For Those In Need

October 16, 2009

During the past two years, Dothan’s Temple Emanu-El congregation has
carried out an annual food drive via a focused effort during each fall and spring.

The congregation’s overall annual food drive objective is to gather at least a ton of food for donation to the Wiregrass United Way Food Bank. Since its founding, the Food Bank has distributed almost 40 million meals to folks in-need throughout our five county area.

Given our nation’s current recession, and the terrible impact we see on our neighbors and their families, Dothan’s Jewish community committed itself to collecting just as much as we could for the fall, 2009 food drive.

The congregation’s fall food drive has just been completed, gathering a whopping total of 1,719 pounds of food for the Food Bank.

Congratulations to our “small but mighty” congregation, 55 members strong, this achievement calculates to each family donating over 31 pounds of food.
